2007 Portland Memory Walk

Today was the Memory Walk to raise funds to help find a cure for Alzheimer's. We asked many of our friends and family to donate to the cause, and were thankful to raise $410. We also enjoyed an opportunity to walk with some of Heather's family; her cousin Stacy and her kids Skylar and Aiden.

The event kicked off on a partially sunny day and we were thrilled not to have to deal with rain. Evan was getting ready to talk this guy into letting us use his umbrella. That would have been a lengthy effort.

While we waited for the event to begin Aiden hoped into our double jogger and gave his legs a rest.

The walk took us from Pioneer Courthouse Square in downtown Portland over to the Portland State University area and back. Near PSU there were many trees enjoying the crisp Fall day and sending their leaves down on walkers. Evan and Aiden enjoyed trying to catch them as they fell and thanks to Mommy, Hollyn ended up with a lap full too.

The walk was over almost as quickly as it had begun, but the event raised somewhere near $150,000, so it was well worth the effort. Afterwards the kids posed for a sun-blinding picture before our family and the Nehls went our separate ways.

Our efforts today were in support of Heather's grandpa, Leland Nehls. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease earlier this year. He is a great man and has meant so much to Heather. Our prayers have always been with him, and now our support is too. Thank you so much if you were one of those who supported us financially in this walk.
